SAFETY & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS.

  • Before operating vehicle check that the brake pedal is firm and does not sink under sustained pressure. Test the brakes under controlled conditions, make several stops in a safe area from low speeds and gradually work up to racing speeds. DO NOT RACE ON UNTESTED BRAKES.
  • Install with bleed screws uppermost.
  • Ensure disc is central to caliper pathway and there is a clearance of at least 2.5mm between the disc outside diameter and the caliper body. The disc must not touch the caliper at any point under any conditions.
  • Differential bore calipers should be installed so that the rotating disc passes the smallest piston first.
  • Caliper should be installed with the top edge of the brake pad friction material flush with the periphery of the disc.
  • Use only a high performance ethylene glycol based brake fluid such as NEXCA’s high performance Formula Dot 5.1 or other high quality fluid complying to FMVSS. DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 specifications. DO NOT USESILICONE BRAKE FLUIDS.
  • NEVER CLEAN BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS USING PETROL OR MINERAL OIL BASED PRODUCTS OR A RAG CONTAMINATED WITH SUCH PRODUCTS AS THESE WILL DESTROY THE RUBBER SEALS. Use an alcohol based cleaning fluid e.g. methylated spirits.
  • Warm soapy water is also effective for cleaning nonferrous brake components. Ensure internal components are completely dry before re-assembly.
  • Brake calipers must be regularly maintained / reconditioned. Replacement seals should be fitted using the appropriate seal kit available from NEXCA. Under adverse conditions, reconditioning should be more frequent. If peak caliper temperature exceeds 240°C or temperatures of over 200°C are exceeded for a cumulative period of 1 hour then caliper seals must be replaced.
  • Hydraulic brake systems must be kept scrupulously clean. Foreign bodies / particles must not be allowed to enter the brake system.
  • Seals and pistons should be smeared with clean brake fluid prior to fitment.
  • When fitting new brake pads clean the protruding portion of the piston before pushing it back into the caliper body.
  • The brake system must be thoroughly bled to remove all traces or air prior to use and before every race. When installing new brake system components or after an overhaul it is often helpful to carry out a second bleed after the breaks have been used and are at their working temperature.
  • Bleed screws should be tightened to a torque of 17Nm (12.5lbs/ft). Do not overtighten as this may damage the seats.
  • NEXCA offer a full factory reconditioning service for NEXCA brake caliper.
  • If you have any doubts about the installations, operations or maintenance of NEXCA brake calipers telephone our Technical section on www.nexca.co.th
